Thank-you again!
Thank you very much to Noah L and his parents for very kindly donating some plants for our reception garden. We were given some tomato plants, runner beans and peas. Mrs Rushbrooke has already planted them in one of our raised flower beds.
Thank-you again!

From this Friday (16th June), we will be sending 5 teddies/soft animals home with different children each week for a 'Sleepover' over the weekend. Each teddy will have their own diary and suitcase or bag.
Their names are: Rufus, Mumble, Spikey, Heidi and Poppy. If your child comes home with one of the teddies, please could you support them in writing a 1 page entry in the diary, telling us what the teddy got up to on their 'sleepover', e.g, they went shopping, they went to the park. They can also draw a picture or take a photograph to show us. Please don't worry, the 'teddies' don't have to do anything 'spectacular' on their sleepover - a day in the garden can be just as exciting! As you may well know, we have been looking at the story of 'Snow White' as part of our Disney topic.
If you are familiar with the story, then you will know that Snow White is tricked into eating a poisoned apple. We decided to make our own....but we decided to use chocolate and sprinkles instead of poison.....we think it will taste ALOT nicer! We have left our chocolate apples in the fridge to 'set' overnight, and they will be sent home to eat on Friday. Once again, thank you to Ellie's Mum, Alex who very kindly came in to help us cook.....we very much appreciate her help each week. As the weather is warming up (and hopefully staying!) the children will have the opportunity to go outside in the reception garden on a more regular basis. Please could you ensure your child has a drink bottle with them everyday, containing either water or juice. Of course, we can top these up with water when necessary throughout the day.
It may also be an idea to send your child in with a named sunhat. We have some spare, but unfortunately not enough for everyone. As many of you will of seen, the list of accompanying parent's for Colchester zoo is up. Many thanks to all of you who offered to help, as usual, to make it fair, names were put into a hat and 9 were picked out. My apologies if you were hoping to join us.
I will provide any further necessary information nearer the time. Many thanks Today, we have done some marvelous maths work. Some of made a human number line. Each of us were given a number from 0-15 to write down on a piece of paper. Holding our numbers, we then had to sort ourselves into the correct order, and made a loonnnnggg number line!. The rest of us were doing some fabulous halving using some skittles. In pairs, we were given an equal number of skittles up to 20, and 2 paper plates. We then had to find out what half the number of skittles was, by sharing them out equally between the 2 plates....then we got to eat them! This morning, we all excitedly boarded the double decker bus and made our way to Tesco Martlesham for our 'Farm to Fork' visit, led by Paul. When we arrived at Tesco, we were all given a s pecial bib, a clipboard with a worksheet, and a special hat with our name on. Firstly, Paul led us to the produce section where we ticked off the different fruits and vegetables on our sheet as we spotted them. We also got to try some yummy raspberries! Next, we moved up to the Deli counters, where Paul told us lots about the different types of cheeses, and we were able to taste some. We tasted Cheddar, Red Leicester, Sheep's cheese and Goat's cheese. We all had a taste of most of the cheeses and really liked them, although the Goat's cheese wasn't so popular! We then had a look at all the different kinds of fish at the fish counter. Paul showed us a big Salmon, some Oysters, and some Mussels. He told us the Mussels were still alive, and when he sprayed some water on them- their shells closed up! Next, we split into two groups. One group had some yummy snack whilst the rest of us went into the Bakery to have a look at all the different machines which make bread, rolls and cake. We saw the huge mixing bowl which mixes all the ingredients to make bread, and the big, long ovens where the Baker's cook the bread rolls. The Baker's have to use a long tool called a 'peel' to reach the roll cooking right at the back of the oven. Once the first group had finished in the Bakery, we then swapped over. Before saying our goodbyes to Paul, he very kindly gave us all a goodie bag! We all had a fantastic time on our visit to Tesco's and would like to say a HUGE thank-you to Paul! We would also like to say a big thank-you to Ellie's Mum,Rose's Mum, Matthew's Mum, William's Mum and Samuel's Mum for accompanying us, and for all their help today! Our final Thank-you goes to Mrs Cumming, Mrs Rushbrooke, Miss Gillings and Miss Reynolds for all their help too! Take a look at some of our photos.... First of all, my apologies, I meant to put a notice up on the last day of term, bit it completely slipped my mind.
Many thanks to all those parents who have volunteered to accompany us on our visit to Tesco's on Wednesday 7th June (the first Wednesday back), Names were picked out of a hat, and the parents who will be accompanying us are: Ellie's Mum Samuel's Mum William's Mum Matthew's Mum Rose's Mum. I will also put these names on a notice and put on the Reception class door. I will make sure I put Colchester zoo names up in plenty of time! On Thursday Howie's Mummy, Gayle kindly came into to help us with our cooking. On the menu this week was.....cheese scones..... Thank-you very much Gayle Today, we had a visit from Kimmy, Chelsea and Chantelle from Kimmy's mobile zoo. They bought with them some fascinating animals,,,,,some furry, some slimy and some wriggly! As we have been learning about Desert animals, linked with out current Disney story 'Aladdin', Miss Rushbrooke asked the ladies to bring some desert - type animals with them. So the animals they brought were: - Meerkats - A Pygmy Hedgehog - An Armadillo - A Bearded Dragon - A Python - A Leopard Gecko - A Hissing Cockroach - A Millipede Kimmy told us a little bit of information about each of the animals, and how to touch them safely - we listened carefully and then the ladies bought the animals around the circle for us to stroke. We all really enjoyed looking at all the different animals as many of us had not ever seen some of the animals before. All the animals were fantastic, but our favourites were the Meerkats and the Python. We learnt a lot about these Desert animals and had lots of fun. We would like to say a huge THANK-YOU to Kimmy, Chelsea and Chantelle for coming to visit us with the animals! Have a look at some photos and videos from the visit....... |
