Such a shame we couldn't visit the farm shop this year due to building work - but it didn't matter, as we held a Farm Shop Experience at the school!.
We had a lot of fun with our Farm Shop Experience. The children had a replica version of the farm shop to explore and consider local produce and imported produce. They completed a lot of map work and located countries where the products were imported from. Finally, they researched other products, such as Kit Kats and Starburst and discovered that their point of manufacturing was at the final point, often the UK, and that the ingredients could have come from around the world. And to finish, we had to enjoy an ice-cream! oIn science we have been learning about the life cycles of amphibians and mammals. The children chose an amphibian to draw a life cycle of and then a mamma. The axolotol was the most popular amphibian to draw! The following gems were used:
In maths today, we have been measuring angles. The children have gone around the class working out if the angles are acute, obtuse or right angles. Then, they measured the angles. Some of the children worked out what the reflex angle would be as well. Good use of the perseverance and cooperation gems.
.Following on from our history topic, the Vikings, we have been building our Viking Long Ships.
The children researched and designed their ships and then used their measuring and sawing skills, learnt how to use glue guns and worked brilliantly in their teams to build their boats. Year 5 played the guitars and sang at the Music-Share Assembly, singing Welcome to the WCET Festival. In maths we have begun our new unit in maths - statistics. The children have begun today learning how to draw line graphs. They learnt that a graph must always have a title, have an X and Y axis, with an appropriate scale and that each axis must be labelled clearly.
