Many thanks!
Miss Rushbrooke would like some spray bottles for an outdoor activity she is planning (must be able to fill them). Would you kindly be able to donate any you may have and no longer need, or know of somewhere where Miss Rushbrooke can purchase some fairly cheaply?
Many thanks!

Hughes class now have some lovely new, colourful chairs, which were very kindly donated to us by a local primary school.
At the weekend, Miss Rushbrooke roped in Mrs and Mr Rushbrooke (and his pressure washer!) to help her give the chairs a clean before arranging them in the classroom. They look great around our tables and have given the classroom some extra colour! Thank you for your help Mrs and Mr Rushbrooke! Next week we will be creating junk model cars.
We are running a little low on junk modelling supplies, so if you have any cereal boxes, milk cartons, toilet roll middles, egg boxes etc which you would like to donate to Hughes class....we would be very grateful and happy to take them off your hands! Thank you in advance, Miss Rushbrooke We are doing really well with our phonics and are practising the songs and actions every day. During our phonics session this morning, Miss Rushbrooke had laid out some big pieces of paper and some felt tip pens on the carpet for us to practise writing all the sounds we have learnt so far. We also practised where to start the formation of the letter (green dot) and where to finish the formation of the letter (red dot). Some of us even had a go at practising how to write our names. Take a look at us practising..... If you would like to have a look at the phonics songs we are learning, please click on the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCjJYB07aSU This morning, we have had 3 or 4 book bags which have contained leaking drinks bottles, resulting in very wet reading records, sound folders, and damage to our reading books!
Please can I remind you that ONLY books, reading folders and letters/reply slips should be kept in book bags and drinks bottles carried separately or in a plastic/sandwich bag. Many thanks, Miss Rushbrooke This week we have started learning our sounds. So far we have learnt s, a and t. For each letter we learn, we say the sound it makes, along with an action and say what the letter's name is. We have also learnt what a phoneme is (the sound a letter makes), and have been looking at the sounds in our names.
Keep up the super sounds work class Hughes! Today, we had our individual and sibling photographs taken in the school hall. During the morning register, Miss Rushbrooke asked us to show her our best smile, and just before we went into the hall, Mrs Rushbrooke and Miss Reynolds made sure that we were looking super smart, ready for our photograph to be taken. We stayed in our line order, waited SO patiently for our turn and listened carefully to the photographer. The photographer even told us how impressed she was with our good listening and fantastic behaviour! class Hughes, Miss and Mrs Rushbrooke are super proud of you all! Written by Miss Rushbrooke and class Hughes. We have almost completed our second week at school! Each day we are becoming more and more confident and are getting used to our daily routine. We are also getting better at sitting still on the carpet and listening to others. Raffle tickets - Lots of us have been awarded raffle tickets for good listening, super tidying, and being kind to others. These raffle tickets are put into a jar, and on a Friday, 2 tickets are picked out at random - the children who's names are on the tickets then get to choose a prize from Miss Rushbrooke's prize box. Counting - This week in our Maths we have been learning to count to 10. We have been using a fun and active video on you tube to help us, take a look...... Today, we went on a listening walk around the school. We were each given 2 big ears (some of us thought they looked like the BFG ears!), we coloured them in and the adults attached them to a strip of card which went around our heads.
First we discussed what sounds we thought we might hear on our walk, some of our suggestions included: Children Computers Music A telephone Talking Birds Computers Cars Chairs After we had shared our suggestions, we were ready to go! We tip-toed like mice around the school, stopping a few times along the way to have a good listen to all the different noises going on around us. Miss Rushbrooke led us through the hall, the staff room, the school office, super quietly past Mrs Ross' office and onto the playground. When we got back to the classroom Miss and Mrs Rushbrooke were really pleased with us and said we had done some super listening. We wrote down all the different sounds we heard on the walk, which included: Children singing Miss Todd typing Kitchen staff clearing up Mrs Ross talking Children talking Cars A Tractor An Aeroplane A drill Birds Miss Rushbrooke and Class Hughes Here are some photos of us on our listening walk... Wow! what a busy first week we have had! We are all settling in well and forming firm friendships. Although we are still finding out feet, we are beginning to get used to the daily routines of school life.
We have talked about some of the things we will learn in Reception, the rules and rewards in school, how we choose the activities we would like to have a go at, and our manners - which many of us have been using during our snack and lunchtimes. We also had out very first PE lesson with Mr Childs. We all got changed into our PE kit and tip-toed into the hall to play some parachute games - it was lots of fun and even the adults joined in too! We hope to see you tomorrow for our 'Meet the teacher' session at 3:40pm. Miss Rushbrooke and Class Hughes. We thought we would share some photos from our first week at school... Thank-you to parents for saying your goodbyes in the playground this morning....all the children came in happy and settled in the classroom well. - so a BIG well done to them! We would like the children to come into school independently, so we would ask you to kindly say goodbye in the playground or at the gate.
As always, we are available for a quick chat in the mornings, or to arrange a more convenient time to come in and speak to us. Thanks again, Miss Rushbrooke & Mrs Rushbrooke (That's going to get confusing!). |
