The children learnt "We wish you a Merry Christmas" and the Makaton signs to accompany the song. Happy Christmas from Reception! The children enjoyed making some Christmas pictures and wreaths. They also made Christmas trees with pine cones! The children warmed up with delicious hot chocolate! Some set up a great game swinging the ropes to each other. Others played hide and seek. The floor was lava for another group of children! What a lovely creative morning Reception! Great use of the learning gems:Today in Phonics the children recapping previously taught sounds by going on a sound hunt around the classrooms! The children then played a game of "full circle" they had to listen carefully to the word the adult said and build it using magnetic letters and phoneme frames. The adult then said a new word which meant they needed to change one letter of their original word. The children had to decide what letter needed changing and find the correct new letter from their magnetic letter pack. They continued making new words (by only changing one letter each time) until they returned to their original word. In Maths this week the children are exploring circles and triangles. Today the children looked at a painting by Kandinsky and named the shapes they could see. The children enjoyed hot chocolate in the Wild Wood today. They also created some beautiful Christmas pictures and crafts. Some children chose to climb trees - making sure they were safe but managing their own risk. Some went on a winter scavenger hunt! Today the children were visited by one of Father Christmas' elves. He is going to watch over the class and report back to Father Christmas. The children decided to name him "Lollipop". I look forward to seeing what mischief Lollipop gets up to! The children also began our countdown to Christmas adding to Father Christmas' beard to count the sleeps to go. 😀
Some Christmas elves helped Mr Ainsley to decorate the Reception garden. Great work everyone it looks lovely!
