We have just come to the end of our 'materials' unit in science. We have learnt about naming materials. thinking about and describing their properties and carrying out experiments. Today we used a range of materials to make our own catapults. We made a target which we had to aim at. Lots of marshmallows were eaten in making! Both the home and school learners had lots of fun! We have been enjoying our home learning literacy work on Pippety Skycap. He is a cheeky Pixie who likes to play tricks. Here is some of our work from school and home. We have also been enjoying our art lessons on the art hub. Take a look at our fantastic drawings.
As we have entered lockdown and home learning the children have once again worked their socks off! Both the school and home learners have got stuck into the activities. Here are a few pictures from our work so far....Well done Year 1!
This week we had our awards assembly for completing x5 a week reading and maths Ed shed homework. Mrs Ross shared the winners during our online assembly. Well done boys! Alongside our raffle winners, we also had 7 children who achieved the learning Gems certificates for this term.

Independence- Kiki- You've grown so much in independence since the beginning of the year, its been fantastic to see! Concentration- Zeta- You have been taking great care with your sounding out, handwriting and general writing, We have seen great improvements in your work! Reflective- Reggie Kn- We love how you look back on your work and make changes to make it better! Well done everyone for all your hard work! In Year 1 we are ready for Christmas! Our class has been decorated, our post box is full, decorations have been made, our Christmas story has been preformed and our Christmas lunch has been eaten! Only 9 more sleep to go! On Thursday we were lucky enough to have a visit from Nick from Hall Farm. He brought his tractor along with him and a huge bag of vegetables, fresh from the farm. We had written questions to ask him and he answered them giving us lots of information. He showed us round his tractor and told us what the different parts do. On Friday, we then made vegetable soup with the carrots, onions and potatoes. We have been thinking about writing instructions and how we use bossy verbs, numbers and a title to make a recipe clear. Well done Year 1, the soup was delicious! In guided reading we have been looking at a book called The Naughty Bus by Jan and Jerry Oke. Last week we had a mystery present left in the classroom which looked just like the one from the book. We made predictions about what we thought was inside. The children were so excited to read the book and find out what happened. Our guided reading sessions allow us to get really immersed in a book. We really want them to have a love of reading in Year 1. We are learning that reading is more than just reading the words it about interpreting and understanding the text as well. Our sessions help us predict, review and find answers to questions in the text. We use different icons to help the children identify what we are learning each session. If you would like to listen to the story at home, click the link below. In PSHE this week we have been learning about our emotions, how to express them and when we might feel them. We used our Go-Giver characters Mitali and Anna and their story of how they were feeling to help us think about what we should do if we ever feel worried, sad, angry, upset and cross. The children got to spend a lot of time talking with their peers to think about who they could talk to when they are feeling lots of different emotions. We gave the children some strategies to cope with the feelings and find the correct words to describe how they feel. As one of our rainbow activities the children had to look at the emoji and think about what emotion it was representing and write about a time when they have felt that emotion. Every Friday morning we have been completing a session of cosmic yoga. Its been a great start to the day for all of us! It gets us in a calm, relaxed mood for the rest of the day. |
