The children used the cooperation and adventurous gems today.
In science today, the children learnt more about friction. They investigated whether different surfaces affected how steep a slop would be before a car would roll down it. The children discovered that a slope covered in foil created less friction than a slope covered in carpet.

In art this afternoon the children learnt how to do print making. Here are some of the results of the first colour of paint.
The children used the creativity gem today. The children also created parachutes. They discovered that their parachute created air resistance, thus slowing the parachute down. The children then completed an investigation to discover what changes they could make to their parachutes to see if this affected how quickly it fell to the ground.

The children made a prediction on what they thought the story would be about and have looked at some of the characters that have been introduced to the reader so far. The children are fascinated to know that a calculator could be programmed by Victoria to find the answers to the maths exam.
We can't wait to read some more! The children have used the adventurous gem. In science today the children learnt about forces and friction. The children tried running with a sheet of card and discovered that the air created resistance and pushed against both them, and the card as they ran. Air resistance is the force that slows objects as they move through the air. Friction is where 2 objects rub together and slows the object down. Their card making contact with the air created friction by slowing the object down.

They learnt that gravity is the force that pulls things to the centre of a celestial body such as the Earth. The children then used force meters to measure the Newtons of force for differing items. The children then learnt that rain does not fall straight down to the ground, but instead gravity pulls it to the centre of the Earth. The children then carried out some research on the scientists Galileo and Newton. The children used the adventurous, cooperation and creativity gems today. Today we began our geography unit on Trade. The children looked at school uniforms to discover what countries they came from and used atlases to locate the countries and label them on a map. They discovered that all the school uniform comes from the same part of the world, but from different countries. The children then explored where some different foods might come from by looking at the labels and finding them on the maps. We ended the lesson by discussing that an items true origin can be difficult to know as the the items may be made somewhere, but this doesn't show the whole story, for example of where it was grown, only where it was finally manufactured.

They learnt how to use saws, g-clamps, cutting blocks and glueguns. These are the final ships that the children made. Whilst working on this project, the children really got to develop their teamworking skills too. The children used the adventurous, creativity and cooperation gems today.
We have announced today our Gems winners.
