In RE last term Mrs Barrell taught us all about Buddhism, after learning all about Buddha and his teachings we made some of our own Buddhas. Here are some of them.

We planned and organised our own themed Christmas Party meals in groups and took part in a Secret Santa to exchange gifts. A great afternoon! Today we went on a field trip to Kiron village to consider the changes the new housing development (on the old B&M site) might affect the village and surrounding area. We carried out an environmental index (grading 4 different areas for noise, traffic, street furniture, litter and graffiti and wildlife and nature) and made notes on what we could see from all of the compass points. While doing this we considered how adding 44 houses to the area may change the village positively and negatively.
It was very cold and wet, but luckily Mandela Class are a hardy lot!! Thank you to Mr Cooper our parent helper and Ms Rowe and Mrs Walker who left Miss Winton's cosy classroom to come and help us out. In Design Technology we have been working in groups to design and make our own viking longships. Mrs Matthews gave us the brief - To make a viking longship which is historically accurate. It needed to be: watertight able to float balance hold 10 playmobil men attractive to look at with a sail, oars and shields. We researched real and model longships and came up with our own designs, considering the tools and materials we had available then as a group we decided on our final design. Then we worked as a group to follow our designs and instructions to make our longships.
Today we had a visit from Monsieur Avery from Felixstowe Academy. He came to teach us French. We talked about what sports we like and don't like and he kept us very active playing games to encourage us to use as much French as possible!! Learning a language has never been so much fun!
Tomorrow is our last day (until she comes back in the summer) with Miss Clarke. She has been working with us for 8 weeks, teaching us as part of her role as a student teacher. We have really enjoyed having her in our class. Today she organised a fun afternoon completing team building activities. We started off working as a team to move all 7 team members from one side of the room to the other without touching the floor using only 5 circles to stand on, we then played a memory game working as a team to memorise 35 items on a table, after that we played a blindfolded game aiming for a target with a beanbag listening to instructions from our team members and finally we had to work together to build the tallest tower we could build which could hold a tennis ball. After tallying up all the points the winners were ........... The Ballistic Bananas
Today in Literacy we have been using role play to help us prepare to write an eye witness report from either a monk, anglo-saxon farmer or viking, reporting on the first Viking raid on Britain in 793AD. It was great fun and should help us write some convincing 1st person reports. |
