Team TSM were in fine form today at the Felixstowe Schools Athletic event. The children competed so well and gave it their best shot, all of the adults who attended were super impressed. Most pleased with Caitlin in Year 6, not only did she pace the 300metre race to perfection but she was supporting the younger runners; giving them hi-fives and pep talks before and after the races. A great asset to the team. Team TSM finished 2nd overall - very impressive indeed!
After winning the Felixstowe Swimming Gala and finishing 7th out of 64 primary schools at Quad Kids, TSM pupils were in action at the Suffolk Finals for both swimming and athletics. The children were in fine form and the adults who attended were impressed with the children throughout the whole competition. We are still waiting for the results from the competition, however, we do know that we didn't finish in the top three. The top three was a big ask, considering we are competing against schools that are three / four times the size of us.
Such an achievement to get to this stage. So proud of the team. Well done! I take full credit for being totally and utterly correct to cancel the Sports Day last week ! Despite initial doubts, when the rain came down around 11am ish it was probably the happiest I have been in a long time! There was a sense of relief as deciding whether to cancel is always a very difficult decision to make, especially when weather forecasts are pretty unreliable! The decision is also made more difficult by the knock on effect to the rest of the day; the biggest complication is the picnic lunch.
In order to simplify sports day and lunchtime arrangements for our second attempt: - Pupils will need to bring a packed-lunch to school regardless of the weather - Pupils who are entitled to Universal Free School Meals (Year R,1,2) and Free School Meals can book a packed lunch from the kitchen. Parents will need to complete the form sent out by Mrs Simpson in the next few days. - Parents can bring the rest of the picnic items with them on the day If the weather is fine and the sports days runs to plan, picnic lunch will happen as normal. However, pupils will bring out their packed lunches and eat them with parents along with anything else that is brought along by the parents. If the weather is poor and the sports day is cancelled, this approach means the children already have their lunches sorted. It just means that parents will need take their picnic baskets home and work their way through the pork pies during the afternoon by themselves. Any doubts I may have had about cancelling sports day were soon gone when the rain came, flooded the car park and drenched the field.
Today, myself and Mr Childs took 10 pupils from Year 5 and Year 6 to the Suffolk Quad Kids Event. The event organised by the Sports Partnership had 64 primary schools competing in 4 athletic track and field events.
Our team were amazing! They ran their socks off, threw further than they have ever thrown, jumped further than they have ever jumped and were just so impressive on the day. Everyone excelled themselves! Everyone gave that little bit extra! We knew that we had been doing well on our events but were unaware of how the other schools were getting on in theirs. The top eight in this event go on to compete against each other in the Suffolk Finals on the 8th July. (TSM already have a team competing in the Swimming finals!) When we got to the results at the end of the event, we weren’t expecting to be in the top 8. Last year, we were ranked 36th and as always we are up against big schools who have 180 children combined in their Year 5 and Year 6 with which to select a team from – we have 54! And there it was… the result… we finished a superb 7th out of 64 schools. Wow! We are through to the Suffolk Finals. The 7th best school in Suffolk! I was so proud of the team and their achievement and so proud to be there to see their success. A huge thank you to those who came along to support and a huge thank you to Mr Childs who helps ensure these pupils are ready for competition! I will remember today always – I am so proud of TSM! |
