![]() Pupils from Year 6, Mrs Matthews and myself (Mr Stock) travelled to Felixstowe Academy to watch a production of 'Back To The 80's'. The production was extremely well put together and it was great to see ex pupils of TSM performing in front of us and pupils from Colneis, Grange, Kingsfleet and Causton. Some of the acting was very strong indeed and there were some standout singers which really blew the children away. The facilities at the academy were great with full staggered seating, stage microphones and professional lighting. The whole thing was set to an 80's soundtrack and the music was performed by the orchestra consisting of Felixstowe Academy pupils. It was a great afternoon - even though it was only myself and Mrs Matthews, and the teachers from the other schools, who actually laughed at the '80's' inspired jokes!
Parent Forum took place on Friday 13th February. A copy of the minutes are available on the SCHOOL COMMUNITY >> PARENTS page on the school website.

![]() We advertised this in the previous newsletter but just in case >>> The Annual World Book Day returns on March 5th and this year we have asked the children what they wanted to do to mark the occasion. You may remember that last year the school decided to allow pupils to dress up potatoes as their favourite book characters. This was mainly to reduce the burden of parents having to locate outfits and costumes etc which can be time consuming and sometime costly but also to change things a bit, to get out of the cycle of "Well... we've always done it this way....!" This year, the children have indicated that they would like to dress up a favourite book character again. So, we thought it would be wise to give you advance notice of this. Now, as with other dressing up days - don't drive yourself round the bend with it! Do what you can! Remember the default option is to send child into school with non uniform! (There must be a book out there that has a child in it that wears everyday clothes - they can all be wizards and witches!). There are some ideas on the World Book Day site - click the link in the blog. As before the school will distribute the World Book Day vouchers which can be used in any good book store. These will be handed out on the day of the event. The history afternoon was extremely successful! Children had the opportunity to learn about their school from a number of different sources. They used artefacts, books, photos and interviewed ex pupils, ex parents of children who attended the school, ex cooks and ex teachers. The children learned a lot about Trimley and completed an activity where they had to be History Detectives and find answers to specific questions about the school. They also took up the challenge of trying to identify the current staff by looking at photos of when they were at school. It was tough but the children did manage to work out that the handsome young chap below was in fact me just before I started at Nursery School. . A huge thank you to all of the visitors who helped bring the history of Trimley St Martin to life and the parents and carers who came along to support the children in their quest to become History Detectives. Most importantly, I must thank the staff for setting up and planning such a valuable afternoon.
Today children from TSM made history at the Felixstowe Schools Swimming Gala! Ever since the competition started in 2009, the event has always been won by the same school. Today... Trimley St Martin add their names to the trophy as they won the overall event with a lead of about 13 points.
There were some outstanding individual performances from our swimmers but as always we were an amazing team; supporting each other, cheering each other on and being positive throughout. As we won round 1, we will now go on to represent Felixstowe Schools in the area competition at Bury St Edmunds in July. The team of adults that went along to support (myself, Mrs Matthews, Mr Child's and Mrs Tranter) were so proud of Team Trimley. We are one of the smallest schools in Felixstowe and yet we can compete with the biggest. As you may remember, when I was growing up swimming was my sport! I devoted my life to it from the age of 5 up into my early twenties. Today, reminded me why I love the sport! The buzz was amazing and it brought back wonderful memories for me. I was praying for a Headteachers race - but no such luck! : ) This event was designed to ensure that all children (whatever level of swimmer they were) were able to compete. I'm doubly proud as Mrs Ross was the person who runs and organises this competition every year; it ran like clockwork, everyone had the chance to compete and the comments from the schools were extremely positive about how well coordinated and organised it was. Thank you Mrs Ross! So... another trophy to add to the Parlauf Relay Shield that we won earlier on in the year! Hurrah! Well done everyone! This year to raise money for Comic Relief, children will design fundraising activities which they can carry out in their own classes. Children will also be allowed to come to school in non-school uniform (no theme!). World Book Day is a week before this event and therefore we do not want to burden parents with having to locate another outfit. If children come into school in non-uniform on Friday 13th March they will need to donate £1 for the privilege.
Trimley St Martin Primary School have been asked to provide a choir for the 'Sing Out Against Cancer' charity concert on 24th April 2015.
We've decided to select around 20 pupils and have 6 solo sections. In today's assembly children were invited to audition for the solo parts in front of the judges (Mrs MacFarlane, Mrs Hayter & Miss Winton). I know they say this a lot on 'The Voice' and 'X Factor' but it was so difficult to choose! Trimley's Got Talent! The singing was amazing and the confidence shown by the children was fantastic. Over the next week or so, we'll allocate the children the specific lines that they will sing and provide them with a copy of the lyrics as a whole. We'll then create our choir who will perform alongside these children on the day. Will K (Year 3) Joseph (Year 5) Ewan (Year 5) Temperance (Year 3) Alphonsine (Year 4) Mollie (Year 6) Just a reminder that the uniform policy (produced in April 2014) is now being enforced in school. If some reason there is a problem with your child's uniform please alert us to this. In some cases, if there are issues with school shoes (too small etc) and your picking up new ones at the weekend - that is fine. Your child will need to change in to their black plimsolls whilst they are in school. We have reminder letters regarding uniform that will be sent out if needed. However, these will not be issued if you have informed us of the reason and given us an estimation of when the issue would be solved. I've attached a reminder of the uniform to this blog post below or copies are available in the front office. ![]()
Since the OFSTED Inspection in December, the staff at Trimley St Martin have been addressing any issues that arose as well as gaining confidence from the acknowledgement that improvements we have made are making a difference. Our main aim at the moment? To have addressed any issues before April, with a view to start working towards to Outstanding from April onwards. The new school development plan, which will be completed ready for April, will be a three year development plan designed to build on the successes that we have had over the last few years whilst continuing to improve and address things that we haven't got quite right yet! Its a long process and things wont change over night. Three years is a reasonable amount of time to work towards and improved judgement. We are keen as staff to continue the momentum that we have created and we have no intentions of becoming complacent. Our feet remain firmly on the pedals! Although the above paragraph focuses on the OFSTED view of us, our aim is to provide our children with the absolute best! The OFSTED grading is purely an indication of progress towards this... what is most important is for our children to be successful, confident and skilled up for the next stage in their education.
Over the next few months, you will continue to see this school evolve, develop and improve. Please continue to come along to Parent View and share your views - its important to receive your feedback at these meetings. I'm not saying I can solve every problem / concern that is raised but if its brought to my attention I'm much more likely to be able to address it if I know of its existence. |
