Last week we issued children in Year 5 and 6 with letters explaining the issues with using Instagram and Facebook outside school. We highlighted that both sites are designed for children age 13 of over but pointed out that we were aware that some of children were still accessing these; some with permission from parents and some without. This week we will continue to discuss being safe when using these social media apps and if children are going to use them; how to ensure the privacy settings are set correctly and to understand that uploading information on the internet is like squeezing toothpaste out of a tube... its very difficult to take it back. ![]()
So incredibly proud of Team TSM today at the school swimming gala. Despite being one of the smaller schools in the area we won the Felixstowe Swimming Gala in style! Everybody stepped up and swam so well. The children were supportive and the sportsmanship was in abundance. It means that our name appears again on the swimming shield, a competition that has only ever been won by one other school since it started ten years ago. Later on in the year, the school will select a team to travel to Bury St Edmunds because TSM will represent Felixstowe and compete any other area winners in the Suffolk Schools Finals. Well done everyone! Thank you to Mr Child for selecting a great team and teaching the children to swim over the years - our continued commitment to swimming has clearly paid off. The quality and depth of our squad was very high. Thank you to Mrs Matthews and Miss Rowe who supported the team and thank you Mrs Ross for organising the whole event for the Felixstowe School.
![]() Advanced warning for Parents travelling to school via Bucklesham Road - Gas Main Works will close the road between 29.02.16 to 04.03.16 This afternoon Parents of year 4 and year 6 came into school to learn more about the way we teach grammar and punctuation in school. The children loved having the parents in school and enjoyed showing them that they actually knew more than them when it came to grammar. The parents were surprised at the high level that the children were expected to reach. However, they all left with a clearer expectation of the standards and levels expected. Thank you to those who attended. If you were unable to attend - do not panic! The class teachers have prepared a pack of resources that can be sent home.
We’re very excited to be welcoming GB Paralympic Footballer Roy Turnham to the school on Monday, 08 February. One of the newer members of the Football 5-a-side team, Roy made his Paralympic debut in London 2012 and was part of the team that finished 7th place.
Roy will be leading a sponsored fitness circuit with all pupils, and will follow-up with a talk and question and answer session. The aim of the event is to inspire the pupils to take up sport generally, but just as importantly to encourage them to discover and then pursue their passion in life. Attached is a sponsorship form for your child to use in order to help raise money for the event. You can also sponsor your child by following the below link: www.sportsforschools.org/event/IP220 As the sponsorship form and online sponsorship page explain, much of the money that is raised will be used to buy sports equipment for the school, while also supporting GB athletes (including Paralympic athletes). Please ensure that sponsorship forms and moneys are returned to the school office on or before Monday, 22 February at the latest. Please also make sure that your child/children come to school on the event day (Monday 8th February) with their PE Kits! Thank you in anticipation of creating a terrific and memorable event. Just before Christmas the DFE published the validated results for this school. The results show another year of improvement. Despite all children making two levels progress and a large amount of our data being above the national average we are now working on ensuring the more able mathematicians are reaching those higher grades.
Today, Trimley St Martin hosted the first session in the second cycle of Enrichment Workshops for children in the Felixstowe Family of Schools. The workshops are designed to extend and enrich children's learning and children were selected by the teachers from the 7 schools in the Felixstowe and Trimley area. The children were amazingly well behaved and the quality of the learning taking place was superb. The workshops ranged from robotics, to hockey, to Shakespeare and to crime scene investigation. There was also poetry and singing. A huge thank you to the staff who gave up their Saturday morning to provide children with the additional learning opportunities. We hope the children took a lot away from todays workshops and will able to apply their newly learnt skills to their learning back at their own schools. Thank you also to the Felixstowe Head teachers who unanimously agreed to continue the workshops for another year. Finally... thank you to the children who attended and were enthusiastic and excited about their learning and the parents and carers who had to miss a lay in to bring the children along. |
