What an excellent way to finish off what has been a totally inspiring topic for Year 1! The children arrived at school dressed in clothing from the time of the Great Fire - we even had a Samuel Pepys look-a-like! The children then spent time in the hall role-playing events from the day with a visitor named Annie, who helped bring the events from Pudding Lane to life! Then in the afternoon the children were visited by a team of Firemen. The children lined up their cornflake box houses and learned why the Great Fire of London spread so quickly. The Fireman was able to put this fire out very quickly. The children learned more about the dangers of fire and what we have in our homes now to keep us safe. They also learnt about why it would be unlikely for another Great Fire of London to occur. Children will remember this day for a long time to come. They have been gripped with this topic ever since Mr Southernwood dug up a box of Samuel Pepys belongings from our school field. The children learnt a great deal! What a super day! Thank you Mrs Stockdale and Mrs Stagg for inspiring the children! Suffolk Primary School League Tables 2014

The children learned lots about the lives the Anglo Saxons led; including tasting some food that was cooked using traditional Anglo Saxon methods. Mrs MacFarlane allowed the children to try meat that had be smoked as opposed to modern day cooking methods.
A great day was had by all - the learning curve in the class was immense - children learnt a lot because the topic was brought to life! Most importantly it is another memory for the children to keep of their time here at TSM. ![]() The children from Year R, Year 1 and Year 2 performed the Nativity in front of a huge crowd of parents and other family members. The children sang their hearts out and put on two fabulous shows! There were plenty of 'aah bless!' moments and at the very end everyone had a jolly good sing song! Do you hear what I hear, Little Drummer Boy, Jingle Bells and I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - even some of the parents joined in! Thank you to all the children for putting on a lovely performance and a huge thank you to the staff who made this happen! Thank you Year 6 for a wonderful, informative assembly about the Vikings. The singing was super and the outfits created were very authentic.
The audience enjoyed the assembly and could tell us loads of things that they learnt from the assembly and loads of things that they thought was brilliant. One child in the audience said he 'loved all of it!' Well done Mandela, so pleased to see the outcome of a terms worth of hard work! To bring to life Year 3 and Year 4's work on the Bronze Age, Iron Age, Celts and Romans, the school invited in an archaeologist who worked alongside the children teaching them all about archaeology; what it is?, why we do it?, and most importantly what we can learn from it? The children were fascinated as they sifted through the buckets of earth; using tooth brushes and other implements to clean up their findings and make predictions about the period in which the artefact would have been made and used.
I think we definitely have a few budding archaeologists amongst us! Huge apologies if your son or daughter came home and dug up the back garden in an attempt to find the remains of a Roman vase or Celtic dinner plate. However, if your son or daughter did find an ancient artefact, please do remember the school that taught them skills in the first place and consider making a small donation! : ) Just an update on where half of the money we raised from Children in Need day has gone. Paula Goodson (A friend of Mrs Ross) has travelled to Sri Lanka to help build a school and work with the children there. Above are some more pictures of Paula with the children.
well done cain & grace! 2nd & 4th place in Felixstowe family of schools business card competition!1/12/2014
At 10am on 1st December, the result of the Felixstowe Family of Schools Business Card competition was announced. All schools in the Felixstowe and Trimley Family of Schools took part. The competition was designed to raise awareness of the shared Family website at www.felixstoweprimaryschools.com . The video below was shared with all the pupils at 10am LIVE across all 9 schools! Well done to all of the children who entered and well done to Cain Yr6 and Grace Yr5 who were in the top five entries chosen by the Felixstowe Head teachers. Today, children from TSM travelled to Duxford to compete in the Lego Robotics Competition.
The children completed in a number of rounds which involved programming the Robots to complete specific tasks, a presentation and a discussion and questioning around core values. The presentation was perfection! Mollie, Ellie, Grace, Daniel, Lauryn, Travis, Edward and Mazden were a million times improved since Monday's run through! Superb! Children clearly took away the comments and the feedback and modified the presentation to produce a presentation that was so perfect the judges struggled to think of any challenging questions to ask the children. In the programming rounds, Daniel and Travis were exceptional under pressure. An issue with the light sensor on the school's robot meant that the children were put under additional pressure in the initial 2 rounds. By the final robotic round, it appeared that the robots issues had been addressed and the two boys gave an excellent performance in the final round. The final result didn't go in our favour. We finished second meaning we just missed out on a place in the National Final at Loughborough as we didn't win the overall trophy. I know our children were incredibly disappointed by the result but all of the children worked so hard today and for what its worth I know I was so proud of our children and what they did today. Today just wasn't our day and in any competition there is always an element of luck! On this occasion, luck was not on our side. We are resilient! We know that we gave it our best and on the day there were other teams that were better than us. We'll dust ourselves off, pick ourselves up and give ourselves credit for the fact that we were one of the youngest teams there and one of very few mainstream schools that were competing. Thank you to all the parents who came along and supported including the ex pupils who came along to support younger siblings, Mr Edwards and the rest of the team. The biggest thank you must go to Mr Edwards. Mr Edwards is a volunteer. He works tirelessly with our children, he purchases the equipment with money from his own pocket, he pays the entry fees and had paid for the children to have Robolab t-shirts. I am extremely grateful for everything he does for our children and just want to say 'Thank you Sir - we really appreciate everything that you do!' |
