Well done to each of our deserving winners!
This morning, we had a whole school 'Super Learning Gem' assembly. Mrs Rushbrooke and I had a bit of a tough time deciding who should receive each award as there were many contenders for all 7.
Well done to each of our deserving winners!

As you may of read on here yesterday, Mrs Rushbrooke and the children dug up the new potatoes we grew in our Reception garden.
This morning, Mrs Rushbrooke cooked them with some mint in our kitchen, and then we got to try them with some butter. We thought they tasted lovely...some of us even had seconds! We also took some down to Mrs Ross to try.....she ate the whole bowl so they must of been tasty! Thank you Mrs Rushbrooke Today, Mrs Rushbrooke helped us to dig up the potatoes which we planted back in April. Mrs Rushbrooke showed us how to dig up the potato plants up from their roots, and we collected the potatoes and put them in a bucket.
Mrs Rushbrooke is going to cook the potatoes up with some mint for our snack tomorrow and we can try some warm with butter. For this weeks cooking session, we have made fruit kebabs!
Mrs Rushbrooke kindly cut up many different fruits for us, and we had to carefully slide the pieces of fruit onto kebab sticks. Our fruit included: Melon, Strawberries, Blueberries, Pineapple, Orange, Nectarine, Apricot and Grapes. Thank you to Alex and Mrs Rushbrooke for helping us today! The day the Reception children had been counting down to was finally here, and what an exciting, fun-filled and rather warm day we had at Colchester Zoo!
After excitedly boarding the coach, spotting all the trademark brown Elephant road signs and the classic lines of "are we nearly there yet?"......we had arrived at the zoo. We were all lucky enough to see many different animals....many of which were having a lay down in the sun! The Children behaved brilliantly around the zoo and were very polite to both our coach driver and other members of the public! Well done class Hughes! Thank you very much to Holly's Dad, Lucas' Mum, Cory's Mum, Joshua's Mum, Logan's Mum. Rafael & Jasper's Mum and Alex for helping us on our visit today. Thank you also to Mrs Rushbrooke, Mrs Wray and Miss Boggis. I think both the children and adults will sleep well tonight ( a couple of children even fell asleep on the coach journey home!) All members of staff took lots of different photos.....I have uploaded them all...there are quite a few.....happy viewing! In our Maths lesson this morning, we were learning about 'Symmetry'.
We learnt that the word symmetry means 'the same on both sides'. Miss Rushbrooke laid out some big sheets of card on the carpet with a meter rule stick down the middle to represent our 'line of symmetry'. Miss Rushbrooke then laid out a shape on one side of the card, and then we had to make it look the same on the other side- making sure we chose the correct size and colour of shape each time- otherwise the 2 sides would not look the same. Once we had all had a few goes with making symmetry pictures with shapes.....we had a go at making symmetry pictures with ourselves!....check out the pictures below..... For this weeks cooking session, we made strawberry jelly with real strawberries in. First of all, we very carefully cut up some strawberries and put them into plastic cups.
We were then given some cubes of jelly each to pull apart and drop into a jug. Mrs Rushbrooke then poured some very hot water into the jug and stirred it up to dissolve the jelly cubes. Mrs Rushbrooke explained to us that the jelly started of as a solid, and then once the hot water was poured into the jug and stirred to dissolve the cubes, the jelly became a liquid. Mrs Rushbrooke asked us what we thought would happen to the jelly when we put it in the fridge, and we were right when we said it would go hard again. Once all the jelly had dissolved in the jug, Mrs Rushbrooke poured some into each plastic cup, and we watched as the strawberries rose to the top of the cups. Our jellies have been left in the fridge to set overnight, ready for us to ,bring home tomorrow. Thank you for helping us make our jellies today Mrs Rushbrooke! This Morning the children had their first experience of being in Year 1!.
They spent an hour with Mrs Stockdale, getting to know each other and familiarising themselves with their soon to be new classroom. They also had a go at colouring in their names. Mrs Stockdale was rather impressed at how well behaved they all were too! Well done Hughes class! Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately for the children!) our class printer has given up :( and we have also had problems with the photocopier....so for this week there will be no homework. My apologies.
In the event of bad weather over night or in the morning and the event has to be cancelled, parents will be notified by text by 8.30am.
Hopefully the sun will be shining!!! Click on the pictures below...... |
