As you may of read on our classroom door, due to rehearsing our Christmas production, as of next week, one of our P.E sessions has changed to a Monday afternoon, we will also still have PE on a Friday morning as usual. This will probably up until the Christmas holidays.
As always, please make sure your child has their PE kit in school all week. Many thanks, Miss Rushbrooke This morning, we had a 'learning gems' assembly, where 7 members of each class were awarded a different 'gem' for displaying certain qualities. Each of the 7 chosen children were awarded a certificate and a badge for the efforts. Well done to all who won!
Our learning gems are.... Creativity - I can use my imagination and develop my own ideas. I can make connections. I am curious Concentration - I can remain focused on what I am doing. I am able to focus on the right things. I am a good listener. Reflective - I do not mind making mistakes. I can learn from them. I think about how I can improve. Perseverance - I can keep going when things are tough. I do not let things stop me achieving my goals. I bounce back. Independence - I can use my initiative. I can make decisions. I can get on with my work and play. I can recognise when I need support. Adventurous - I like to try new things and can push myself. I am ambitious and aim high. I am able to have a go. Co-operation - I can work with others as a team. This week in our Maths lessons, we have been learning about 2D shapes. In particular about Rectangles, Squares, Triangles and Circles. We have been looking at their 'properties' such as how many sides and corners each shape has. We found that a squares and rectangles are very similiar because they both have 4 sides and 4 corners, but....a rectangle has 2 sides that are longer.
We played a game of '4 corners', in which Miss Rushbrooke pinned a different shape up in each corner of the classroom. She then described its properties, such as 'it has 4 sides the same length', and we had to move to the corner with the shape she was describing. Then, we had a good go at creating 'human shapes' with our bodies.... we managed to make a triangle, a square, a rectangle and a circle......it was great fun, take a look....... Just a quick post to say a huge WELL DONE to the children (and yourselves!) for reaching the end of the first half term!.....it's gone so quick, and those first day nerves and worries are now long gone!
Over the last 6 weeks, all of the children have settled into school-life really well and quite confidently come in, in the mornings with a big smiles on their faces! We hope you all have a lovely half term break, ready to come back to the craziness and fun of the lead up to Christmas. Well Doe again class Hughes! EYFS Team In preparation for Halloween, for todays cooking session, we made 'spooky spiders'. We were each given 2 cupcakes - one vanilla and one chocolate. We firstly put some chocolate butter-cream icing on the tops, and then added 2 smarties for the eyes, and strawberry laces for the 8 legs.
Thank-you for helping us cook today Alex! Thank-you to those of you who were able to make our maths afternoon yesterdqay. It was great to see you all! We hope you all enjoyed the afternoon playing maths games and carrying out maths activities with your child.
We would just like to let you know how proud we were of class Hughes this morning.
Whilst in their P.E lesson in the hall with Mr Childs, the fire alarm went off. I went down to the hall to see the children then going out of the fire exit in a VERY sensible way. No fuss, no tears, no silliness. They all walked out onto the playground and lined up quietly and very sensibly. When the children were back in the classroom, we had a talk about why we have fire practices and why they are so important. Well done class Hughes, all the adults were very impressed and proud of you all today! For today's cooking session, we made cheese scones. With the help of Mrs Rushbrooke, we put flour, margarine, cheese and a little bit of salt and milk into a bowl and made a dough.
We then each had a piece of dough to roll out and used a round cutter to cut out the scone shape. Lastly we brushed the scones with a little bit of milk so that they turned a golden brown colour when they were cooked......and then into the oven they went! The classroom smelt delicious and some of the scones were still a little warm when we took them home! Thank you Mrs Rushbrooke for helping us with our cooking today. So today was our 'Red, White and Blue' day to celebrate 100 years since the end of the First World War.
We all looked great in our red, white and blue clothes! This week we have been busy learning 2 wartime songs - 'Its a long way to Tipperary' and 'Pack up your troubles' , making 'Boiled cakes' using a war time recipe, and making hats, flags and bunting to have at our street party- and today we got to put it all to good use. With our hats on our heads and waving our flags, each class walked out to our 'street party' singing the songs we had learnt. We than sat down amongst the bunting to enjoy our cakes and yummy treats! Take a look at the photos from our day... |
