This week has been all about direction. Using the language of left, right, forwards and backwards we had a go at programming our beebots around a track. Today Mrs Rushbrooke and a group of children dug up the potatoes they had planted what seems so long ago. They were seriously SCRUMMY!
Class Hughes are definitely enjoying the topic of minibeasts. We are carefully watching the class caterpillars, which after only two days have doubled in size. We have had many minibeasts brought into school for us to study. The first two models have arrived for our minibeast challenge.
A massive well done to the whole of Key Stage 1 for a fantastic sports day. A special well done to the yellow team who were overall winners. Mrs Ross, Mrs Rushbrooke and Mr Childs were very impressed with the classes attitude to the whole event and we were very proud of the 100% effort of every child. Today we read 'The Bad Temepered Ladybird. We quickly discovered that the ladybird was mean and that all the insects and animals he met would not all be found in our garden. To make sure we went on a minibeast hunt. This week we are learning about the life cycle of the ladybird. We are using another Eric Carle book. Some Interesting facts!
1. Ladybirds aren't really bugs at all, they're beetles! 2. The "lady" in ladybird refers to the Virgin Mary. 3. A ladybird's bright colours warn predators to stay away. 4. Over its lifetime, a ladybird may consume as many as 5,000 aphids. 5. You can't tell a ladybird's age by counting its spots! |
