Our topic on minibeast has led the class to a very famous author and illustrator named Eric Carle. Eric Carle Facts Eric Carle, was born on June 25th, 1929 in Syracuse, New York. When he was only six his family returned to Germany, where he was educated as a child and where he later graduated from a local art school. In 1952 Eric returned to the United States, arriving in New York City with a mere $40 in his pocket. He worked as a graphic designer for The New York Times, and as an art director for an advertising agency before being noticed by Bill Martin Jr., an author who asked Eric to work on the book Brown Bear, Brown bear, What Do You See? The book became a best-seller and Eric Carle's career as a children's author/illustrator began. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of Eric's most famous books and this week we have been using it to learn about caterpillars and butterflies. This afternoon some of us helped to decorate the letter B ready for the Rio Carnival.
See you all Thursday! This morning we visited our friend Paul at Tesco Martlesham. We were lucky enough to to go behind the scenes and see where and how our food gets to Tesco. We had a busy morning- * Looking at fruit and vegetables. Can you name something that is neither a fruit or vegetable but can be bought from the produce isle? Find the answer after the photos. * Tasting different cheeses, including cheese made from goats and sheep milk. * Looking at all the fish on the fish counter. * Going into the bakery to see how bread is made. * Having a really tasty snack. Look for the dolphins. Mushrooms
Thank you to our parent helpers today!! Today was all about antennas and feathers. We can all be seen in our finished masks on Thursday 26th May at the
Rio Carnival. Today we have been busy painting our carnival masks. Once they are dry we will be adding our own amazing designs. Keep coming back and you can see how we are getting on.
This week we are reading the book "The Foggy Foggy Forest" by Nick Sharratt in Literacy. Have a listen to the story being cleverly sung. After reading the book we each made our very own shadow characters.
To extend our learning about shapes, we made our very own shape sandwiches. As we made each sandwich we had to use the correct mathematical vocabulary and describe each shape. "A square has 4 equal edges". "A circle has 1 edge". "A rectangle has 2 short and two long edges". So what shape has 5 edges?
