We had a lovely afternoon in the Early Years garden playing with water. Some children decided to water plants, others played with our water wall. Some decided to make pathways on the pavement, some made hot chocolate and other yummy treats in the mud kitchen and one child "moped" the ground. It was wonderful to see the children exploring and using their imaginations. Well done Donaldson Class.

Today the children used ten frames and counters to explore making 9 and 10 using 2 or 3 numbers. Super exploration everyone! 😁
To celebrate Chinese New Year the children tried Chinese food. The prawn crackers were particularly popular! 😄
Well done to our learning gem winners from Autumn term. Keep up the super work. Who will be next to win a learning gem certificate? 😄
This week in maths we have been learning about taking away one and the concept of ‘zero’. We have been singing ‘5 currant buns’ and discussing taking away one each time, working out how many are left and then talking about there being none (zero) left at the end!
We decided to have a go at making our own currant buns, round and fat with a cherry on top! Here are some pictures of the children baking- I didn’t manage a picture of the finished product- they gobbled them up too quickly! A big thank you to everyone who donated toys to our classroom. The children are really enjoying them.
We hope you enjoy watching our Reception class Nativity video. The children have been amazing learning and performing the songs and each saying their own lines for the story. We are very proud of them all. 😁 ⭐️ Merry Christmas to all of you. 🎄🎅 This week the children have been enjoying the story ‘Owl Babies’. They have learnt lots of facts about owls, written about the story and created some wonderful paintings of the owls in the story.
This week we have been reading the story ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’. Today in the woods we decided to create a sensory trail of the story. We made swishy swishy grass, a deep cold river, sticky oozy mud,
L a swirling whirling snow storm, a dark forest (stumble, trip) and a cave for a bear! The children had great fun creating the parts of the story and then reenacting it throughout the afternoon. What a super way to spend a rainy afternoon in the woods! We finished the afternoon with a biscuit the children had decorated in the style of a bear! During class time we created some journey maps and added some words using our super phonics skills. This week we have been learning the story ‘The Little Red Hen’. We are learning to orally retell the story using a story map to help.
After reading The Little Red Hen we were inspired to bake some bread. Unlike the very unhelpful animals in the book, the children did an amazing job helping Miss Holliman to bake some bread. We talked about the process of planting the grain, growing the wheat, cutting and milling the wheat into flour and then kneading and baking the bread, just like in the story. We enjoyed the bread rolls as our afternoon snack. They smelt and tasted delicious! The children then commented that the bread would be delicious with soup. So the next day we made some carrot, potato and parsnip soup to go with our left over bread. Yummy scrumpy! |
