The schools annual sports day was a real success and Class Hughes was part of it! Well done to the winners- Yellow Dragons. ![]() Today we had the great pleasure and excitement of meeting two real athletes. Kola Adedoyin and Nathan Fox who are triple jumpers for Great Britain. They came in to work with each class. We all had to complete a fitness circuit. (Lots of us raised money for the school and for charity). It was real hard work, but we all loved it! We are busy learning all about 'People Who Help Us'. We have already learnt a lot about how our familiy and friends help us. We have also discovered how different people in our school help us. We are now investigating how people of the 'outside world' help us too, so today we had a visit from Mrs Atkinson. Mrs Atkinson comes into school each term to check we are staying fit & healhty. Many of us have already been weighed and measured and some of us have had our sight and hearing checked. Mrs Atkinson explained her job was to go to lots of different schools and check that everyone is growing properly. She has lots of different equipment that she has to carry everywhere, which helps her check children's weight, height, sight and hearing. She sometimes also has to check if some people are colour blind. We all had the chance to use the equipment. Hughes is having a design overhaul! We have been busy painting the walls and over half term new carpets will be laid.
Watch this space for pictures! On the 20th May all of the children in Class Hughes got to visit the local Tescos store at Martlesham. We travelled from school to be met at Tescos by Paul and Rosie, our helpers for the morning. When we arrived in the store we were all given a special tabbard and a named hat. Paul and Rosie and our parent helpers took all the children around the store. We got to investigate where all the fruit and vegetables came from. We tried lots of cheeses too , including Edam, goats and sheep. We also learnt alot about the sorts of fish that is sold at Tesco. We tried some prawns, muscles and even squid!! Our favourite tasting was the doughnuts, which we got to make all by ourselves. Paul and Rosie took us into the bakery to see the big ovens and giant mixers where all the breads and cakes are made. We all got to put jam into our own doughnuts and cover them with sugar. We were even allowed to take these home. All of the children were very impressed with the snack we were given, lots of fruit and mini doughnuts. We all had a great time at Tescos and now know alot more about where food is grown, how it is made and how it gets to the shop for our mums and dads to buy. On Tuesday 20th May after our exciting morning at our 'Farm to Fork' visit at Tescos. The whole school took part in our Commonwealth Afternoon. Class Hughes represented Australia. We had lots of fun learning the 'Lingo', discovering all about what it would be like to live in Australia and the differences & similarities between how we live and how they live. We really enjoyed making lots of Australian art and we even got to try 'Vegemite'. Yes!, just like marmite you either love or hate it!! |
