A Rangoli is a colourful design made on the floor near the entrance to a house to welcome guests. At Diwali, Hindus draw bright Rangoli patterns to encourage the goddess Lakshmi to enter their homes. Here are a collection of our Rangoli designs. Mehndi is a ceremonial art form. Intricate patterns of Mehndi are typically applied to women's hand, feet and legs during the festival of Diwali. We made our own Mehndi hands. Divas are oil lamps associated with Diwali. The lights have a two fold significance. They are lit to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, into people's homes. They are also linked to the story of the return of Rama and Sita from their fourteen year exile. According to the ancient tale, the people of their kingdom lit thousands of clay lamps to welcome the exiles back home. For our RE Curriculum afternoon Class Hughes learnt all about the Hindu festival of Diwali- The Festival of Lights. We learnt many facts about Diwali and had great fun making Rangoli patterns, Mehndi patterns and puppets of Rama and Sita from the Diwali story. More photos to follow when our wonderful art work is dry!!
During the Summer Term the new children starting in September get the chance to visit and experience life in Reception. Here are a few photos of that experience. Class Hughes welcomes all it's new children. Mrs Ross and Mrs Rushbrooke look forward to another exciting and hard working year.
Class Hughes would like to thank Mr Cooper for bringing in his fire-fighter friends and teaching the children all about of the job of a fire-fighter. Mrs Ross had the most fun being dressed up as a real fire-fighter. Class Hughes would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Simmons and her daughter Megan for kindly bringing in their pet ducks and chickens!! As part of our 'People Who Help Us' topic we had four very special visitors come to school hall. INTERESTING FACTS- 1. Both chickens and ducks will eat mealworms. 2. Chicken's feet are actually quite soft and very warm. 3. Chicken's poo is very runny! We had the chance to hold them too. Over the last term all the childfren in class Hughes with the help of our resident gardener- Mrs Rushbrooke have planted and cared for many different plants and vegetables. Potato SuccessToday we were able to dig up our potaoes. This year has been a nice big crop, so big we all had boiled potaoes and butter for our snack! |
