We we looked at some real fish! We had some sea breaks to look at. We all held it and some of us even cut it up to look at what it looks like inside! We were definitely more keen than Miss Winton!
MacArthur have been looking at how we would survive on a desert island. We have designed our own rafts and decided that the best way to find food whilst out at sea would be to fish. We made rafts to escape from our desert islands in science. We decided that our rafts needed to be strong, wind proof, have some shelter, be waterproof and most importantly, float! We made some predictions about how our rafts would perform and then had a competition. Cally and Darcie were crowned the winners after making a raft that ticked off all the criteria! We have been looking at desert islands in literacy and science. We had a lesson to do lots of writing by ourselves. Look at the amazing work we created!
We made desert islands. We worked in groups and created some fabulous destinations - Miss Winton and Miss Boggis said they would love to visit! We used lots of art materials and has to work with our groups to make our islands the best they could be!
In RE we have been learning about Judaism. We hVe been looking at the festival of Simchat Torah. This is festival where Jews celebrate reading the Torah. We made our own miniature Torahs and flags that we could use at a Simchat Torah party! MacArthur went on a shape hunt today as part of our maths work. We were looking for 2D and 3D shapes around the school. The most common shape was a rectangle. We tried to count but realised this wold be a challenge as the whole school was built with rectangles (or cuboids).
Have a a look at our pictures. Can you name the shapes as well? ln history this week, we have been looking at Victorian music and the difference between the music of the rich and the music of the poor. We learnt that poor children and their families could not afford instruments to play and so sang traditional songs or listened to music in the streets or at fayres. Another way that poor Victorian children listened to music was from street sellers. The street sellers used songs to sell their products. We we had a go at being Victorian street sellers. Check out our efforts below! MacArthur then looked at shadows and how they are made. They made shadow puppets to test this out. Have a look below! As part of their science lessons, MacArthur have been investigating light and dark. They thought about what candles do and the different parts of them. They learnt that it is lit using a wick and as the wax heats up, it starts to melt. They looked at different candles and whether they produced different levels of light. MacArthur then went to find the darkest place in the school. It turned out that it was in the art cupboard - it was pitch black and we managed to fit the whole of year 1 inside! |
