Today we started our first DT topic of the children where we will be making soft toys for our Reception buddies. First, we talked about the skills we would need in order to do make the toys. We then thought of some questions we could ask our buddies before looking at a range of soft toys, identifying the types of materials they are made from, the fillings they had as well as how their faces had been made.

We started our maths learning a little differently this year by looking at bar models and how we can use them to help us solve word problems. First we looked at how bar models might look according to if they are representing additive, multiplicative or a mix of both of them. Following this, we then looked in more detail at additive problems. We talked about how, although a problem can be set in a different context or contain different numbers, they are often the same type of problem. The children came up with their own versions of problems before completing a range of questions that were all additive. Good use of these learning objectives:In PSHE we have been talking about ways to build and improve our class community so we can have a successful and happy year! Good use of these Learning Gems:We had a good start to our French lessons in Year 6 this morning. The children practised some of the vocabulary, they should already know and will need to use this term, by playing a noughts and crosses style game with their partner. good use of this learning gem:It was also a chance for the first group of children to be selected to work on the VIP Table. This is a reward for children who are showing particular focus and concentration and a positive attitude in the lesson. Well done! We also selected our first 4 Artists of the Day! Good use of these Learning Gems:Today was an exciting day in Year 6 and we had a Book Cafe in class where we had the chance to look at a range of books from five different genres and find some books we are keen to read. It was great fun and nice to see the selection we have in the class library. We transformed the classroom into a Book Cafe, complete with candles and music. Here we all are enjoying the menu of different books! Once we had looked at all of the books and reviewed some of them, we selected one from our five favourites which we would like to read and recreated the front cover. It was a lovely way to spend the morning: feasting on books! GOOD USE OF THESE LEARNING GEMS:Today we completed a team building activity. Using only 20 pieces of spaghetti, 1 metre of string, 1 metre of masking tape and 3 marshmallows we challenged each group to build the tallest tower. Everyone worked well together to compete the task. The tallest measured 78cm. GOOD USE OF ALL THE LEARNING GEMS: |
