Today, the children returned to the computer room to do some more tinkering on TinkerCAD. This week the focus was on rotating shapes and duplicating them. Once they had mastered both these skills, the children then had to use them in order to design a key ring.

Using our perspective design skills we designed and made our own press prints and created some lovely press print pictures! Firstly we came up with a design and scored our design onto the press print. Then we used our finished press prints, using the designs we scored onto our polystyrene tiles and printing ink to transfer the design onto paper as a repeated pattern. We were able to select from a range of colours and could use black or off white art paper to print on. The different backgrounds and paints gave very different effects - some made our eyes go funny! The best results were when the lines were scored deeply into the tile and the design was kept simple and clear. A great way of using our perspective drawing skills! We enjoyed looking round and finding out more about the Christian Church.
Good use of these Learning Gems:Mandela Class really enjoyed their first visit to the Wild Wood with Mr Childs this year. They had great fun spending the morning completing a range of tasks and having lots of fun! Good use of these Learning Gems:Two teams of Y5 and Y6 cyclists were selected to take part in races against other Felixstowe Primary schools as part of the Women's Cycle Tour celebrations at Felixstowe seafront. Both our Teams won all their races and overall Team A came first and Team B came second. Well done! Good use of these Learning Gems:We started the unit by finding out more about the buildings designed by Norman Foster and recording our findings in our sketchbooks. We then learnt how to create one point perspective drawings and practiced the technique. Finally we produced some one point perspective drawings independently, going over the pencil design with sharpie and then colouring it in using pencil crayons. Good use of these Learning Gems:This afternoon, we started science with a game of vocabulary dominoes. The children used the key words related to our electricity topic, taking it in turns to lay a card down in dominoes styles. As they laid their card down, they had to give a reason why their card was related to the card they had put it next to. Here are some of the links they came up with along with the reasons. After this, we chose an enquiry question we would like to explore today, from the questions we wrote at the end of the last week's lesson. First we needed to establish the type of enquiry it was using the branching key. The children were really quick to identify the type of enquiry they were carrying out - most groups were carrying out a fair test and one group had an observation over time to do. The children then predicted what they thought would happen including a reason why, carried out the investigation, drew a bar or line graph (depending on what whether they had collected continuous or discrete data) and then concluded the investigation. Great use of these learning gems:Here are our finished boards:We hope to inform all the visitors to our classroom about the life and work of Nelson Mandela!
We have Book Club for two 30 minute sessions a week and we really enjoy having the opportunity to read books in small groups for pleasure. Sometimes we read by candle and torch light. Making our reading relaxing and fun! Good use of these Learning Gems: |
