In Science we are studying 'Classifying Critters' - all about classifying living things into the 5 kingdoms. So far we have found out about Plants, Animals and Bacteria and today we learnt about Fungi. We explored the most recognised form of fungi - the mushroom! Mrs Matthews brought in lots of different types of mushrooms for us to draw and look at. Afterwards Ms Rowe cooked them so we could all have a taste. There were mixed reactions - but it was a fun morning :-) Parents - you would be surprised how many children enjoyed eating mushrooms!! Good use of these Gems:Today we went to Saxmundham Free school to take part in their French cafe. We were able to practise our French and order food. It was all delicious and we had a great morning. We are all excited about high school French lessons now!!
Today was Red, White and Blue day and our class had a great time with Miss Bewley finding out more about WW1. In the afternoon all of Key Stage 2 had a fantastic street party celebrating 100 years since the end of WW1. It was great to see the children sharing food, singing songs and getting along together 😊 This week in Literacy we have been working really hard to produce our own display boards, with each group focusing on a different aspect of Nelson Mandela's life. We worked really well to independently organise our groups and work together to create an informative board, so visitors to our classroom can learn more about the great man himself! Fantastic work!! The finished display boards:Good use of these Learning Gems:Today we have been working on our Art unit based on 3D artwork. We have been looking at the work of Henry Moore, a sculpture and painter, who has produced to brilliant semi-abstract sculptures of people, including the 'Reclining Man' and 'Mother and Child'. Today we responded to his work by creating our own clay reclining figure sculptures. Watch this space for the finished sculptures..... Good use of this learning gem:Today in Maths we used fortune tellers to help us reflect on our ability to identify equivalent fractions, percentages and decimals. It was fun! Good use of this gem:In our SPAG lessons we have been leaning about complex sentences, making sure that we can identify the main clause and subordinate clause and use commas and subordinating conjunctions correctly. We reviewed our work using the Complex Sentence Checklist. Then as a group we selected our favourite 5 star complex sentences. Good use of these Learning Gems: |
