Mrs Matthews had a rest on Friday morning, as Blue Group were given the job of teaching the class for the day! Blue Group (who are all aiming for Level 6 this year) taught the class about BODMAS and the order of operations. After a quick introduction from Mrs Matthews, they delivered a lesson they had prepared themselves and even did the marking afterwards. It was very successful and lots of brilliant teaching and learning took place, ensuring the class are ready for next week's unit on BODMAS! Well done Blue Group!!

In Maths we have been looking at different ways of working out the 4 calculations (+ - x ÷).
When working out multiplication problems we use a variety of methods including: repeated addition, the grid method and the long multiplication method. In Y6 our aim is to be able to use the long and short multiplication methods, confidently, quickly and efficiently (including for decimals) by the end of the year! Children from (Y6) Mandela and (Y5) Barlow took part in the Felixstowe Schools Cross Country event. Although we didn't bring the trophy home (like last year) all the children performed well and we achieved two 1st Places, a 2nd Place and a 5th Place. Well done!
In Science we are looking at Classifying Critters. We have been investigating branching keys, looking at ways of sorting animals into different categories.
Today we had a great time at the Y6 after school leavers pool party, disco and BBQ. Check out some of our moves on the dance floor!
All of Key Stage 2 (almost 100 children) went to Kirton Rec today for an end of term treat! Everyone had a great time and an ice cream. Yum! Mandela wowed the crowd tonight with their outstanding performance of Wind in the Willows. Well done guys!! Today in our Science lesson (on The Life Cycle of Plants) we were looking at Seed Dispersal. We made our own helicopters (sycamore seeds) and looked at how fast or slow they fell to the ground if you altered their size. It was great fun!! |
