In our maths lesson today we were learning to count in 3s. This can be tricky to 'get' - even Mrs Tubby has to count on, on her fingers when the numbers get larger! However after learning to 'count on 3 more on our fingers' each time, I was rather impressed with how well the children grasped it! We used counters and cubes to count out 'lots of 3'to help us find the answers.

Today we had our third (slightly chillier) session in the wildwood. We were quite impressed to find that over the weekend, the hens had laid 8 eggs.
We carefully collected them in an eggbox. We had fun den building, music playing, digging, hammock swinging and 'cooking' in the mud kitchen. Thank you once again Mr Childs! Take a look at the photos from our session.... Today, we had a rather fun literacy lesson. We were learning about instructions and had a carousel of activities set up in the classroom in order to use our skills to follow sets of instructions.
The activities we carried out were: *Whiteboard drawing - Working in partners, one child would describe what to draw and the other would draw it on their whiteboard. Then they would both reveal their whiteboards to see if their drawings matched. *Bead Necklaces - The children had to read and follow a set of instructions to make a necklace. *Origami Fox - The children had to read and follow both word and picture instructions on how to fold paper to make an origami Fox. *Just Dance - The children had to watch and follow the choreography to different dances and music on the Interactive whiteboard. Take a look at the photos from our lesson.... In our Science lessons we have been looking at materials. Today, we tested if different materials were waterproof or not. We took cups and buckets of water out onto the playground and tested out different materials by pouring the water on. The materials we tested were: Felt Fur Cardboard Paper Tin Foil Leather Plastic wrapping An umbrella. We then went back into the classroom to record our results. Take a look at our experiment.....
For our Didgeridoos we used brightly coloured paints to create our aboriginal patterns, symbols and messages onto our cardboard tubes. We created these by carefully creating swirls and flicks with the paintbrush and dots with the end of cotton wool buds. We concentrated hard to make sure all the carboard was covered. Now to wait for them to dry before we can 'use' them!
This afternoon, Christmas came early in Nightingale class, complete with Christmas music as we made our Christmas card designs, ready to come home to you to view and order and be sent off ready to be made for December! Order forms and designs will be coming home within the next few days...
What a busy day we have had in Year 2 today! In our literacy, we have been looking at 'Concrete Nouns' and 'Proper Nouns'. Yesterday we learnt that a concrete noun is a person, place or thing, such as 'girl', 'ball' and 'film'. Today, we learnt that a proper noun is still a person, place or thing, but they are more specific, giving more information. For example 'Amy', 'Felixstowe beach' and 'Toy Story'. Our task today was to sort both concrete and proper nouns into their correct categories. We firstly had to find the written nouns posted up around the classroom. We then had to decide if we had found a concrete noun or a proper noun, and stick it onto the corresponding whiteboard. Take a look at our work....
This morning, Nightingale class had our second session in the Wildwood on the field.
We took part in bug hunting, digging with spades, creating 'stick dens' hammock swinging and making 'chocolate soup' in the mud kitchen. Some of us also helped Mr Childs clean out the chicken shed......alot of us did not like the smell!! We had another great morning and some of us got rather muddy...including Mrs Tubby! Thank you Mr Childs This morning saw our first session in the Wildwood with Mr Childs.
We had great fun den building, bug hunting, digging, raking, swinging on hammocks, con-concocting recipes in the mud kitchen and holding the chickens and collecting their eggs. We can't wait until next weeks session! Thank you Mr Childs! We have had a great first 2 days settling in to Nightingale Class. The children have adapted very quickly to the 'new normal' school day and have jumped right back into their learning. As mentioned in the Seesaw post, I have been super impressed with how well mannered they have all been - Keep it up Nightingale Class!
In our Literacy lesson today, we were looking at punctuation and where full stops should go. We were given large pieces of sugar paper with sentences written on with the full stops missing and some balloons. We had to read through the sentences and mark where the full stops should go by attaching the balloons. Take a look at our great work..... |
