On Monday we received a very stressful email straight from the North Pole! Rudolph and his friends had broken Santa's sleigh. But Class Hughes came to the rescue. Over the week we have been in contact with Santa and his elves. We have designed our very own sleighs, which we drew and sent to Santa for his approval. He liked them so much, we all had to make a model and send him the photos. Santa was so impressed he used all our ideas and made himself a new faster sleigh! well done Class Hughes, you saved Christmas!!!!
Class Hughes were very lucky to have a visit today from Paul who works at Tesco's in Mathlesham. Our class has been the very first school that Paul has visited and we were very lucky to find out all about ginger and gingerbread. Did you know that gingerbread men were made and put into the pyramids in Egypt!! We discovered that ginger is grown all over the world and can be used to make food taste sweet and savoury.
After the talk, we got the chance to make our very own gingerbread men. YUM YUM!! Over the last week we have discovered lots about Egypt and used what we have learnt to make up our very own stories. Our stories had to have a setting. Our stories had to have characters. We planned our stories by drawing and labelling a story map. Remembering a story has a beginning, middle and end. As our stories were so good, we had great fun making a real life 'Mummy' ![]() Today we started talking about feelings and emotions. In our talk partners we had great discussions about what things can make us happy, sad, scared or worried. We looked at different facial expressions and scenarios that got us thinking about the ways we treat each other. We have started to make emotion paper plate faces for a classroom display. As part of 'Children in Need' the children in Class Hughes came in dressed up as their favourite Superheroes. We had everything from Superman to Elsa. The class even had an extra special visitor in their Literacy lesson. Class Superhero photo gallery. Just look at how super we are! In PE we have started our new area of learning. This half term we are being taught how to move and make up routines in gymnastics. This week we had the chance to use the floor mats. Everyone in the class is very eager to get the big apparatus out.
In Understanding of the World this week, the children learnt all about how water can be both a liquid and a solid. The children got to freeze water in lots of different vessels and then see what happens as it gets hot and starts to melt. Every half term in assembly there is the chance to win a book. Every week reading record books are checked and every child who has read at least 5 times will recieve a raffle ticket for the big half term raffle. Remember in Reception, reading a book, practising sounds, doing homework- All counts to one of the 5 a week, so remember to write it down in the reading record books.
GOOD LUCK FOR THE NEXT ONE AT THE END OF TERM! |
