Our topic this term has been about seasons and weather and on Wednesday in science we each made our own rain gauges. We wanted to see how much rain fall there is over a week (probably a lot with the way our weather has been recently) We use a plastic bottle and made a scale, we had to use careful scientific skills.

Today we stepped back in time to celebrate our topic this half term. We came in dressed as people from 1666 and spent the day carrying out lots of different activities. This morning we had a go at making bread just like what would have been made in the bakery on Pudding Lane. We had to follow the instructions we had written in literacy last week. It smelt delicious baking in the oven. Afterwards the firemen came to visit because we had recreated the scene from 1666 and our Tudor houses were on fire!!!!! They rushed to help us put the fire out using their hoses, thankfully we have the fire services today not like in 1666. While the fire was burning our houses, we sang along to London's burning. This afternoon we had a visit from the Freshwater Theatre Company, who helped us re-enact the Great Fire through drama and role play. Annie turned into different characters from 1666 and helped us learn more about London. Check out See-Saw for more pictures and to listen to the Great Fire of London song we have spent the half term learning! Thank you for all the effort with the costumes! The children looked great! There was excitement this morning in Year 1 when we were in the middle of the register when Mrs Lawrence rushed in to say she had the gardener on the phone. It turned out that the gardener had been digging in the woodland garden and had found a box with Samuel Pepys written on it. He knew that Y1 were learning about Samuel Pepys and thought that we might like to take a look. When we got to the garden we found a box with soil and leaves on it with a label which read ‘Property of Samuel Pepys’ – so exciting! We could hardly wait to open it and talked about what we might find… Inside was a very dusty bottle of wine and a small waxed cheese – if you don’t know why, ask the children! When we got back to our classrooms we ate the cheeses and drank grape juice whilst discussing what we would write. Great fun and tasty too Today was Mrs Matthews' Reading Raffle assembly - there are many books to win, if you read 5 times a week! Our Y1 winner was very pleased with her choice.
Our new topic teaches us about a signifant event which happened a long time ago. We have started to think about life back in 1666 and how and where the fire started. We wrote sentences about things we would have liked to of saved from the fire and questions about what we would like to find out. The children enjoyed reenacting the event using our new role play area.
To continue with our dinosaur topic we have been learning about fossils and we know that its the imprint of an animal. We had a go at making our own dinosaur fossils using salt dough today.
This afternoon in Science we explored lots of different flowers and plants. We looked at the stem, leaves, roots and petals and named them. We then played a question and answer game to find out more about the plants. Finally we designed our own garden and had a go at drawing some of the new flowers we have learnt about
Some of our bean plants have grown so long! The children got to bring them home today. Some are hoping that they grow into beanstalks! Thank you to all of the effort put in for Book Day today, the children looked great! They took part in lots of activities today based on books. Check out all our outfits!
We came into school this morning to find a letter on the whiteboard. It was from John who is a Palaeontologist, he told us to look on the field for dinosaur bones. We ventured out to find some very exciting bones, lots of different shapes and sizes! We then wrote a re-count about the morning and focused on adding 'ed' onto the end of words. We were very excited!! Check out some of our writing!
