In PSHE, MacArthur have started looking at our new Super Learning Gems. This week's gem was co-operation. We learnt that this means working together. We played some team games in the hall and four of us earned our co-operation gem! MacArthur had a brilliant Victorian day today! Dressed as Victorian children they experienced life as a child in a Victorian classroom - complete with teacher and a dunces hat! They took part in lots of different lessons including drill, reading, writing and arithmetic (the 3 r’s), art and technical drawing. They were on their best behaviour too! Year 1 have been learning how to write questions using the correct punctuation. They have also looked at the different words that can be used to start a question. Year 1 wore a question word for an afternoon to see how many different questions they could be asked by different people. MacArthur have a special visitor for December. It turns out the elves have been so naughty in the North Pole, Father Christmas has had to send them away to learn how to behave!
Our elf is called Jingle. Keep checking to see why mischief he gets up to! In maths, MacArthur have been looking at 3D shapes. Today, they had to use their problem solving skills to use this knowledge and create a robot! The only things they had to use were cocktail sticks and midget gems! Which of their robots is your favourite? In PSHE, MacArthur looked at people who help us. We can up with lists of different ideas including Mums and Dads, our family and friends, teachers, policemen and women, the fire brigade, doctors and nurses and ambulance people (we learnt they are called paramedics). We thought about the people who help us when we are poorly and what we could do if someone around us wasn’t very well. We learnt how to call 999 and how to put someone safely in the recovery position.
Key Stage 1 have some new pets! We are very lucky to have been given some stick insects! We have learnt all about them and are looking after them, feeding them and cleaning them. Some of us are a bit braver with the stick insects than others - Miss Winton is not sure she would let them crawl over her face! MacArthur had an EGGcellent time the other day. We had an EGGciting delivery to the classroom with which we had to be EGGxtremely careful. In case you haven’t CRACKed it yet, the delivery was some eggs!
We used our observation skills to sketch the eggs, noticing the differences each one had. We drew and coloured them, being very careful not to crack them when handling them. We then took the measurements of the circumference of the eggs, using measuring tapes. We had lots of fun, especially when we got to crack the eggs and see what is inside! In RE, MacArthur have been looking at parables. We have looked at 4 different parables - 'The Lost Coin', 'The Lost Sheep', 'The Lost Son' and 'The Two Houses'. We made pots to help us tell the stories. There are four different objects in our pot to help us remember each parable. Can you spot all four by looking at the pictures? |
