We then learnt how to create one point perspective drawings and practiced the technique.

We enjoyed looking round and finding out more about the Christian Church. Good use of these Learning Gems:In our English lessons we have been learning about complex sentences, making sure that we can identify the main clause and subordinate clause and use commas and subordinating conjunctions correctly. We worked in pairs or threes to come up with are own complex sentences using given main clauses. The following day we had a go at writing our own complex sentences: We reviewed our work and came up with a complex sentence checklist: Good use of these Learning Gems:This week in maths our focus was on rounding and negative numbers. First rounding - the children wrote a definition of rounding, giving examples and non-examples of it as well as completing a range of tasks which involved rounding. Following that, we looked at negative numbers. This was a tricky area of maths for much of the class but we made great use of number lines to help us when adding and subtracting negative numbers. We made use of a Gattegno chart to help us multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. We also looked at how to work out what the intervals on a number line were worth. We also worked confidently to compare and order numbers, using the comparison symbols: greater than, less than and equal to. Good use of these learning gems:In maths, over the past two weeks, we have been looking at reading and writing numbers up to 10,000,000 in words and digits. We focused on how we could use commas to help us read the numbers and wrote our own way of remembering this. Good use of these learning gems:This week we started our Mystery Book Club. Mystery Book Club is when Mrs Matthews wraps up a book she has especially selected for each group to read. We've been seeing the packages on the table since last week, so have been dying to find out what was inside! Today we found out and got to unwrap them!! Here are the books we are reading:Good use of these Learning Gems:Today was an exciting day in Year 6 and we had a Book Cafe in class where we had the chance to look at a range of books from five different genres and find some books we are keen to read. It was great fun and nice to see the selection we have in the class library. We transformed the classroom into a Book Cafe, complete with candles and music. Here we all are enjoying the menu of different books! Once we had looked at all of the books and reviewed some of them, we selected one from our five favourites which we would like to read and recreated the front cover. It was a lovely way to spend the morning: feasting on books! Good use of these Learning Gems:Good use of these Learning Gems: |
