The children's prints are beautiful and we experimented with different ways of printing, using stencils and drawing onto the paint on a tile and then printing this onto the paper.
A huge thank you to Mrs Calver, Mrs Ahmed and Miss Cook for their help this afternoon hearing readers and then getting involved in a very messy and hectic print making art lesson! Hello and a very Happy New Year to all of the children, parents and guardians of Lincoln class.
I hope you all had a lovely break (as I certainly did!). A big thank you for the beautiful cards and presents, I was thoroughly spoilt! In Lincoln class we have been very lucky this week. We were visited by Ipswich fire service on Tuesday and learnt all about what fire men do and we got to look at the fire engine! Miss Thurlow and Zoe had a race to see who could get changed quicker into the uniforms (Zoe won!). Miss Thurlow also tired on the breathing apparatus. When then asked the firemen some questions. Next, we got to look at the fire engine. Then, we we allowed to use the hoses (with help from the firemen as the hoses were really heavy!). After that we sat in the fire engine and had our photos taken. It was a super visit and a huge thank you to Harrison's Dad for organising the visit. We have been exploring forces and materials in science this week. We brought our scooters in the look at how we could change either how we moved on the scooter or how the scooter moved. We have been looking at fractions in our maths lessons this week. We have really enjoyed that so far because it involved lots of food so we could cut the items into halves or quarters before eating them! The children have been super and are really enjoying their learning. Kind regards, Miss Thurlow and Lincoln class In science this week we have been exploring forces and their impact upon different materials. We look at the pushing force of our breath on marshmallows. We were able to predict how we could make the marshmallow travel further. The children really enjoyed this activity and could explain how we could test which person was able to make their marshmallow travel the furthest in our class.
Thank you for the very generous donations for our children in need fundraising.
The milkshakes were a huge success. The children and I really enjoyed making and selling the milkshakes with the help of Miss Rushbrooke and Mrs Stockdale. The super hero vegetables were super and it was lovely to see the artist talents of the children and parents in our class! We also attempted our sponsored silence (some children were very successful). Other found this rather tricky! Thank you again for your support and kind donations, we hope that it will bring some happiness to children in need. from Miss Thurlow and the children of Lincoln class (photos to follow) It is only Tuesday but we have already been very busy in Lincoln class this week! On Monday we painted didgeridoos as we have been exploring Aboriginal Art for the last few weeks. The finished products are beautiful! We have some real artist talent in Lincoln :) On Tuesday afternoon we went for a walk around Trimley St Martin to explore the properties of materials in our local environment. The children worked really well and could explain a lot about each material we saw. A big thank you to all the adults involved- your help was greatly appreciated. Thank you to those parents/guardians who have offered their help next Tuesday afternoon for our materials walk around Kirton/Trimley St Martin. For those who are available could you please meet us in our classroom at 1:30. We are planning to walk for roughly 45 minutes so will be back at school at the latest for 2:30. If anyone else if available please let me know.
A big thank you for all of your generous donations for our harvest festival. Our square was full in the hall and the children loved watching Mr Stock sing. We had a wonderful afternoon today learning Makaton with Mrs Lawrence as part of our communication topic. The children were really excited to learn how to say good morning and good afternoon, what lunch they were having and other simple phrases. A couple of parents have mentioned problems filling in the maths homework in the green books. Please let me know if you or your child are struggling and I will set a page up for you. Thank you for your support and cooperation. I look forward to seeing some of you next week. Miss Thurlow and Year 2 Welcome back to the children and parents of Lincoln class. The children have settled in very well to their new classroom and are working brilliantly. I would like to share with you some of the work from the children during their first few weeks in Year 2. We have started exploring the story of 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' in English. The children have been writing alternative endings to the story (last week) and designing a sandwich for Mr Grinling and writing instructions of how to make the sandwich. We also imagined we were seagulls and wrote recounts of our days. In Maths we have been looking at different addition strategies including, using a number line and partitioning. We have also been thinking about place value. The children have really persevered with this as some initially found the partitioning method quite tricky. We are going to start our topic of 'Communication' next week in computing by looking at taking photographs of different forms of communication found at school. In music we have been looking at different genres of music and learnt a new song (video to be uploaded soon). The children have started their independent studies now. If all children could bring some information in to assist them in working on these that would be very helpful please. Thank you to the parents who came along to the meet the teacher presentation yesterday. I have attached a copy of the presentation for those unable to attend. If you have any questions please feel free to pop in. As mentioned in the meet the teacher presentation any parent volunteers would be greatly appreciated :) Year 2 Class and Miss Thurlow Last Friday we had great fun as a school celebrating alice in wonderlands theme of the mad hatters tea party. as a school we have been doing lots of fantasy and imaginary writing. we all make a unique hat and then went on the field for games, sick and cake!!! Lots of fun in the sun. |
