This afternoon, after interviewing both Mr Childs and Mr Barnard about our missing marble jar, we discussed all the evidence that we had gatherer over the past few days. We then wrote a conclusion to say who we believed had taken our marble jar based on our gathered evidence. Many of us were correct......it was Mr Barnard.
Mr Barnard wrote us a letter explaining that he only took the marble jar to share with the children in Year 1. Mr Barnard also very kindly returned the marble jar to its rightful place in our classroom. Great detective work Year 2! This morning we came into the classroom to find that our marble jar had gone missing! 'NO TREAT FOR YEAR 2' had been written across our reward poster, we also found 2 coloured balls and 2 chocolate wrappers left on the window sill where our marble jar usually sits.....evidence!
We decided we needed to let Mrs Ross know what had happened and to also ask her for help. So we sent Mrs Ross an email asking her if she could look on her 'cameras' to see if she saw anything or anyone acting suspicious. We also made 'missing' posters to put up around the school. Watch this space for any updates!..... Our current Maths topic is 'Time'. This week we have been making our own clocks, counting in intervals of 5 minutes, writing different units of time and timing ourselves performing different tasks and then seeing how many times we could perform the task, or how long it took us.
We also wrote down different activities which we do during the day or night and as a class, then discussed if the activity would be belong on the 'morning' clock or the 'afternoon/evening' clock. Some were quite easy to decide and some were more tricky as they could be performed both during the morning and afternoon/evening. Our Geography topic this term is 'We are going on Safari' . This week, we made a start on creating our own 'Safari Park Shoeboxes'. In our previous lesson, we planned out what we wanted to put in out safari parks and which materials we were going to use. Then this week, using our plans to help us, we then started cutting out paper and materials for grasslands, lakes, viewing platforms etc. Next week we will be adding in animals and finishing touches to complete our safari park shoeboxes. Take a look at what we have created so far.... In our Art lesson this week, we experimented with some tie-dyeing. We tied some elastic band around our pieces of material and then dipped them in coloured ink. We then tied the elastic bands onto another section of our material and dipped into another colour ink. We repeated these steps until we were happy with our result. Look at our fantastic creations.... This week we started our new maths unit of 'Position and Direction'. We looked at lots of direction vocabulary such as left, right. forwards, backwards, under and above. We drew directions, looked at the position of different objects and people in relation to where we were sat in the classroom and later in the week wrote directions for our partner to then follow on the playground. Next week we will be looking at turning clockwise and anti-clockwise! We have had another busy week in Year 2. We have been sharing pictures of our growing sunflowers, been learning lots about measuring height and length in our maths lessons, and getting our race practice in ready for Sports day! We then ended the week by dressing up as different characters - great effort Year 2, you all looked fantastic! This week we began our new science topic 'We are Gardeners'. In our first lesson, we planted our own sunflower seeds. We had to put some soil into a plastic cup and gently push some sunflower seeds into the soil before topping the cup up with a little more soil. We made sure we gave our new plants some water too! We have taken our sunflower plants home to look after - making sure they get plenty of sunlight and water. I wonder whose will grow the tallest? We have also planted some extra sunflowers to keep in our classroom and observe their growth. * Did you know that a Sunflower is called a Sunflower because it follows the sun's journey across the sky throughout the day?! * |
