In History we are learning about fairs and festivals. We learnt about the Notting Hill carnival. We made these gorgeous masks to celebrate our learning. We hope you like them!

To parents/guardians,
I am sorry the homework was not given out Friday afternoon, we had a very busy afternoon in the Computer room and were rushed leaving. I am giving the children their homework today but, if you would like to keep it till next Monday (15th May) that is fine. I apologise for any inconvenience that has been caused. Kind regards, Miss Thurlow We had a look at our seeds after a few weeks of keeping either water, light or soil from them.
We found that the seeds which grew best (after Miss Thurlow's one which got all three) was the seeds kept in the dark (maybe it wasn't quite dark enough!). The seeds which did not grow at all were the ones without soil or water. We have been very good at reminding Miss Thurlow to water the seeds!! Welcome back Year 2!
Time is flying by and we are now into the Summer term (even if the weather doesn't feel like it!) Our topic this half term is gardening and we are completing a seed experiment in Science. We decided that plants needed four important elements to grow: * water * soil * light * air We then took one of these elements away from a seed. We are hoping to see if any of the seeds will grow without one of these elements. The class have been very good at reminding me to water the plants each day. Yesterday, (Monday 24th April) Elissa and Charlie noticed some seed growth when watering the seeds! A big thank you to the grown ups who came and helped us to make our beautiful African animal finger puppets.
The children worked really hard to practise tying knots and sewing. Well done Year 2! In Computing this term we are zoologists!
We went on a bug hunt around the field to see what we could find - lots of worms and spiders!! We then recorded out findings in excel and turned them into a bar chart! We had a fab day at Colchester zoo, we saw lots of African animals and learnt about their habitats.
Thank you to all the grown ups for their help. Miss Thurlow Thank you to all the grown ups for their help with the wacky races cars. The designs looked amazing!
Well done to Phoebe and Matthew our class winners! :) In Science we are now looking at "mini worlds" we have to use microscopes and magnifying glasses to explore objects in new ways.
We were very lucky because Mrs Matthews brought in a microscope for us to use. We also used magnifying glasses to observe different parts of us. We had to draw detailed pictures and described what we saw. We loved learning about Florence Nightingale during our Hospitals topic last half term.
We were very lucky to have Miss Thurlow's uncle come in to visit us. He is a paramedic in the army and he taught us how to use bandages and the importance of first aid. |
